FIELD NOTES' latest Colors Edition "Foiled Again" revisits a classic printing technique—hot foil stamping. Featured on several past limited edition releases, hot foil stamping involves the application of metallic or pigmented foils to paper via heat and pressure. The process was originally patented in 1892 by Ernst Oeser of Germany, replacing the manual application of gold leaf in the book industry. By the 1950s, plastics improved the foils and provided new surfaces, resulting in many new applications across printing, packaging, and other industries.
For this particular edition, FIELD NOTES has teamed up with Studio On Fire from St. Paul, Minnesota to produce a set of stunning foil stamped covers with intricate detail.
